Expertise:

Richard Koepnick has completed numerous geologic research, technical service and training missions for industry and academia over the past 30 years. He provides worldwide consultation on carbonate exploration and reservoir characterization issues, particularly in the Middle East. He has developed depositional and diagenetic facies models and reservoir architectures for large, multi-year, carbonate reservoir characterization projects in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi and Qatar. Most recently he has been a key contributor of stratigraphic, sedimentologic and diagenetic information for the evaluation and development of Qatar’s giant North Gas Field. His on-going research interest is the sedimentologic and diagenetic controls on both porosity distribution and reservoir quality within carbonate strata. He is the principal architect of a temporally based approach to the identification of new carbonate exploration plays and to the utilization of carbonate reservoir analog information. This concept focuses on the role of historical factors in the prediction of carbonate reservoir distribution and quality. He is a pioneer in the development of strontium isotope technology. This technology has been used to solve a broad range of industrial and academic problems and has been widely praised by the scientific community.
