Fred Read recipient of several professional awards

Dr. J. Fred Read, Professor of Geology in the Department of Geosciences, has recently received or will soon receive the following awards:
- At the September 2005 meeting of the Eastern Section of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), Dr. Read received the Outstanding Educator Award. This award is presented "in recognition of outstanding contributions to the education and training of geologists."
- The Eastern Section of the AAPG also selected Dr. Read as the recipient of the A.I. Levorsen Award for "the best paper, with particular emphasis on creative thinking toward new ideas in exploration." Dr. Read's paper is entitled "Greenhouse, transitional and icehouse climates generate distinctive parasequence stacking patterns in carbonate reservoirs." The award will be presented at the Eastern Section's annual meeting in October 2006.
- The Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM) will award the Francis J. Pettijohn Medal for Sedimentology at the AAPG-SEPM Annual Meeting in April 2007. The medal recognizes "persons who have a significant record of outstanding contributions in sedimentary geology, including all aspects of sedimentology and stratigraphy."
